My Father Knew A Lady Once.
Through difficult circumstances our family has no contact with my mother, she has chosen to separate herself from us. My mother has never seen or met my last three children. I sometimes wonder how her life is and when the ability to cut people off first began. My father has the most beautiful photos of my mother from when they were dating, their engagement and their marriage. I love to look at them because my mother looks so pretty in them. The woman in the photos is different from the woman that she is now. The woman in the photos gives me a glimpse into my real mother. I'm sure many of you are estranged from your mothers for various reasons. In the Bible there is a precious verse that says "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you." (Isaiah 66.) This verse is powerful and shows a little of the greatness of who God is and what He is capable of. I pray for my own mother to know and understand the gentle touch of Jesus in her life.

My father knew a lady once
He fell in love with her.
He asked her if she'd marry him.
She answered him, "Yes sir!"

They had a nice engagement
She wore a pretty dress.
With the families both excited
They invited many guests.

The lady glowed with love inside,
My father proud to sing.
The engagement now official.
She had a diamond ring.

The lady looked so young and sweet,
Her heart was pounding fast.
In her mind a little voice said
"I hope that this will last."

My father knew a lady once,
She married him in white.
She was a picture on that day
Quite a lovely sight.

She had a glow of happiness
That look of one in bliss.
The ceremony sacred,
The flowers and that kiss.

The lady felt so awkward,
Their home now all prepared.
She was pregnant for the first time,
Unwell and feeling scared.

Another baby followed,
Two children  now to rear,
The lady discontented,
She'd had a good career.

My Father knew a lady once.
She tried her very best.
She did her so called duty
And resented all the rest.

She never felt content with life.
She had to go away.
Her pain now far more obvious.
She really couldn't stay.

There were stories and some secret things
She never let dad know.
It broke his heart, the one he loved
Now really had to go.

She couldn't deal with hurt and pain.
She was safer in denial.
He saw potential in her life
When walking down the aisle.

I think the voices of her past
Have haunted her for years.
Cause now my mother's older and
Controlled by all her fears.

That lady love my father knew,
I wish I knew her care.
Back then she was so innocent,
A  beauty very rare.

My father knew a lady once.
She's still alive today.
She is in denial in her heart,
She needs to 'come away'.

She still has beauty underneath
All the years of pain.
She has a softness rarely seen,
All covered up with shame.

Her life now sad and empty.
No healing in her heart.
I hope one day she opens up
And makes a brand new start.

God's arms are open waiting still,
Outstretched and so are mine.
When she surrenders to His love,
One day there'll come a time.

Once more I see the photos
Of the lady now so lost.
Once more I daydream to myself
How much her choices cost.
