Parking Lesson
Blossom was frantic. In her eight years of life some things are just so important. This morning it was the 'home reader' from school. "I have to find it or I'll get a cross." she's yelling with tears in her eyes.
"A cross next to your name," I say. "So what, it can't spoil your day. Hurry up and get in the car. It's time to go." Inside my mind I'm thinking to myself, "get real, a little cross, how bad can it be. For once you're not perfect." I then said to her in great wisdom of course, "you're not perfect remember it's OK to get one cross."
"But other kids don't have any", she exclaims.
"Well other kids aren't you. Be yourself it's OK." I answer, wondering where the home reader could have gone.
Finally we arrive at school. Trying to be a little thoughtful I double park in a convenient spot to let the children out. I try to console my daughter as she goes to face her day at school, without the 'home reader'. I say, "The home reader is a tiny part of your entire day, don't let it spoil your whole day. Have a lovely day, I love you."
As I say good bye to my precious ones I am unaware of the parking police along side me taking down my details for double parking. As I drive off to make my way home I hear myself saying, "Oh no a cross next to my name. I was trying to park where the children wouldn't have to walk so far. Not a cross."
Then I hear the voice of the Father. "It's only a little cross don't let it spoil your day. You are not perfect remember only I AM and I love you." How gracious is God to humble me to understand my daughter's feelings. God uses our parenting to teach us how to mother and how to listen to the Father.
