My Shepherd
I want to share a little story that goes with the following poem.

My lovely friend Grace was looking out for my husband to be. Wherever he was she was going to find him. I had received a beautiful promise from the Lord about my husband being a shepherd. Therefore I was searching for a man who smelled of sheep poo and holding a shepherds staff, no not really. I was waiting for this anointed man who was going to be capable with my three precious children and with me.

Grace started going to a weekly bible study and of course was checking out the potential husbands for me when she thought about this particular man in the group. She began telling me about him. Actually, she was giving me the whole spiel. She spoke about his job, his intelligence, his up bringing and more. So of course one Sunday at church I agreed to check him out from a distance. I mean right across the other side of the auditorium. From that great distance I said something pathetic about how I didn't like what he was wearing.

Some time later I also joined the weekly bible study. Grace and I had discussed this man in length and finally I'm in the same room as him. Now girls you know how it is when you've had these anointed, intelligent, ridiculously silly conversations over a potential husband. I was not impressed. I felt totally exposed. If only he knew what Grace was thinking. I could not believe my best friend on planet earth would choose the conservative fellow sitting opposite me for my husband.

As time went on I got to know this man with the unusual accent and he was actually quite lovely. The first time I heard him speak I told him I had trouble understanding him and could he speak properly. What a great introduction. He thought I was the rudest woman he had ever met.

The rest my friends is history.

My Shepherd

I think about when we first me.
How I didn't like your style.
I didn't like the way you talked.
I didn't like your smile.

I'm sure glad we took that step
And went out for a date.
When I look back I did like you
I didn't like your mate.

I was searching for the one
That God had planned for me
I asked the Lord for a shepherd
To care for my kids - three

Together we have been through lots
Of different types of trials
Together we have faced it all
And still come out with smiles

I'm happy that the Lord knew best
To put us both together
Though I didn't like you then
I love you now forever
