Our Family Adventure
We decided that today would be the day for discovering Brisbane city. We were all excited as we boarded the train. We had heard so many things about Southbank and Queen Street Mall that we were expectant. We arrived in Central and made our way through the city and over the Victoria Bridge to Southbank. All the way across the bridge we told the children that it would be like the Darling Harbour of Brisbane. (Darling Harbour is a tourist spot in Sydney) They were all satisfied with that.
It was getting close to lunch time so we decided to eat at one of the eateries. We all had different and varied lunches surrounded by people and lots of Ibis. Just as we had all finished, our little girl Mini Me fell sideways off her chair onto a metal bolt on the ground. The eateries had shades that were held by large steel poles bolted into the ground. We all jumped to help Mini get up but as York lifted her we noticed drops of blood on the concrete. When she was finally in full view she had gashed her forehead and was bleeding quite badly.
All the children went into shock and panic. Grampy went to find help as York held her and I put pressure on the wound. Help arrived and guided us to the first aid room. Everyone was very upset for little Mini. Blossom was blaming herself because she had tried to break the fall with her foot. James Bond was crying and Buzz was trying to contain his emotions whilst fussing over Mickey and Pebbles. After a brief assessment by the first aider we were advised to go to the nearest hospital for stitches. Our big Brisbane adventure was over, Mini needed medical attention.
At the hospital we were all on edge. Grampy and I decided to take all the other children home and leave Blossom, York and Mini at the hospital until she had been taken care of. Emotionally exhausted we made our way home. Somewhat disappointed and sad we sat quietly on the train. Everyone's thoughts were on little Mini in the hospital. We arrived home and started to unwind. About an hour later York rang and they would be home soon. Mini was fine.
We all checked her injury on her arrival and were so thankful that she was well. Our family was OK. The effect of just one of us being hurt deeply affected all of us. Even though she is only two and a typical two year old at that, our family was thrown out of order by the mishap. I realised today that our family is united, even in difficulty we were all there waiting and praying. We could have all been bitterly disappointed and frustrated at missing out on Southbank, but we weren't. We were expectant for a good outcome for our little one.
Though the enemy tried to take our special day from us, the Lord showed us His sovereign protection and love. It was a special day after all, probably more special than we first anticipated because as a family we stood united in faith.
I was reminded of the scripture in 1 Corinthians 12:26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
