What Is That In You r Hand ?
One Sunday our pastor spoke a message called, "What is that in your hand?" Based on the scriptures in Exodus 4:1 - 5 Then Moses answered, "But suppose they do not believe me or listen to me, but say, 'The LORD did not appear to you.' The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A staff." And he said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw the staff on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses drew back from it. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Reach out your hand, and seize it by the tail"--so he reached out his hand and grasped it, and it became a staff in his hand "so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."
It touched me. I thought to myself, what do I have? I am at home with the children all day. I am very alone due to our move. How can I fulfill this call? I began to ask the Lord "what is in my hand?" He began to bring back memories of writing poetry and writing thoughts. I had done it for years. He showed me that it was a gift to be used to reach out to people and communicate love, grace and life to others. Before my conversion I had written folders of poetry and thoughts. Writing all that was inside of me on to paper. I looked at my writings as a way of coping because I was so lost and searching for answers.
After my conversion I threw them all away, I felt I had no need for it any more. I didn't realise that it was a gift and could be used for Gods glory. Right now I am in the process of taking back what is mine and rekindling the gift that God gave me. It makes me feel vulnerable because I am bringing out my inner thoughts but creatively and spiritually I feel alive. Zollywood is my vehicle for opening up in a fresh new way to the things of God. For me its my next step of faith for fulfilling Gods ultimate purpose.
I wanted to share this because there are many of us who are creatively frustrated. We tidy our homes to have them made messy again, we prepare dinners for our families to devour, we can paint and never finish or sew an incomplete out fit. Our creativity can sometimes be stifled, but God wants to release in us wonderful and God breathed creativity. I have to ask you, "What is that in your hand?"
